N arayaneeyam is the nectar for all sufferings, it is the spiritual light through which one can attain self realization - the oneness, where all the living and non-living objects are alike. It is the Universal energy, the feelings of God.
|
Shreemad Narayaneeyam is an immortal devotional hymn exploring the glory of Lord Guruvayoorappan, composed by Melpathur Narayana Bhattatiri, the great scholar and devotee of Shree Guruvayoorappan who lived in Kerala about four centuries ago. He was the student (shishya) of Shri Achuta Pisharadi. Sri Pisharadi was suffering from paralysis (vatha rogam). On his dedication to Sanskrit, Vedas and Bhagavatham that he learned from his Guru Achuta Pisharadi, Melpathur sacrificed his life and took the disease from Guru as Guru Dakshina. The Guru was completely cured and Shri Melpathur got paralysis.
Melpathur reached Guruvayoor and decided to dedicate his life in front of Shree Guruvayoorappan.
He met one of the great scholars of Malayalam, “Thunjattu Ezhutthachan” there and briefed about his illness. Ezhutthachan advised him to start the treatment from fish. Sri Melpathur understood the meaning and from his |
knowledge he recollected the Srimat Bhagavatam and wrote divine Sanskrit slokas briefly in 100 Chapters. While writing the slokas titled Narayaneeyam, he had some doubts and It is said that during that tough time, Shree Guruvayoorappan himself appeared in front of him and cleared his doubts.
On completion of the 100th chapter, he could really feel and see the physical form of Lord Guruvayoorappan with smiling face and venu on lips, with kaustubam and vanamala. He got Lord Guruvayoorappan’s blessings, and completely got rid of his diease paralysis (vaatha rogam). |

I bow my head in front of all you (readers, my elders,) and with the grace of Lord Guruvayoorappan, I am translating the Great Narayaneeyam from my little knowledge. I am dedicating my efforts to my Father Late “Shri Damodaran Nair.

DASAKAM 1
[Prathama skantham]
BHAGANMAHIMANUVARNAM
“Sandranandavabhodatmaka anupamitam 1
Kaladesavadibhyam
Nirmukhtam nitya mukhtam nigamasata sahasrena
Nirbasyamanam
Aspashtam dhrushtamatre punaruru
Purusharthatmakam bhramatatvam
Tattaavatbati sashat Gurupavanapure
Hanta ! bhagyam jananam”
God exists everywhere. He is invisible, although visible to him who has dedicated his mind to him. He is not connected with anything though he is there in all living and non-living entities. He is incomparable, because nobody can be compared with him. He is the only one-ness. He is spread all over like the sky. Remember the sloka in Vishnu Sahasranamam”
“Shantakaram Bujaga sayanam-patmanabham suresam
Vishwadaram gagana sadrusam meghavarnam subhangam
Lakshmikantam kamala nayanam yogigridyanagamyam
Vande vishnum bhava bayakaram sarvalokaikanaham”
No one can describe his appearance (roopam). He is there in all entities. He is beyond the kala chakra because only he exists and gives existence to others. In this world, everything is mortal - human being, birds, animals, trees, and all other entities are subjected to destruction. The only one thing that comes with us is the mind connected with realization of the ULTIMATE TRUTH that is God
